Polish Lowland Sheepdogs typically live 12 to 14 years and are a generally healthy breed. Hip dysplasia and certain eye conditions occur occasionally. Otherwise, this is a hardy, long-living herding breed with few major health concerns.

That long, shaggy double coat needs brushing several times a week to prevent matting close to the skin. A thorough comb-through, working in sections, keeps tangles manageable. Bathe every few weeks and dry thoroughly to avoid trapped moisture. Trim around the eyes for clear vision.

Bred to herd sheep across the Polish lowlands, this breed needs close to an hour of activity daily. Walks, herding games, and agility suit their athletic drive well. They have boundless energy paired with a clever, alert spirit. Mental stimulation matters just as much as physical exercise.

Developed in Poland centuries ago, this breed was bred to herd sheep across the country's lowland plains, valued for its intelligence and tireless work ethic. The breed nearly went extinct during World War II as Poland's rural population and livestock were devastated. A small number of surviving dogs allowed dedicated breeders to rebuild the population after the war. Today it remains Poland's beloved national herding breed.
