American Leopard Hound

The short, smooth coat needs only a weekly brush to stay clean and shiny. Their floppy ears benefit from regular checks to prevent moisture buildup. Bathe occasionally when needed. Round out grooming with nail trims and dental care.

Bred for treeing big game across rugged terrain, this breed needs serious daily exercise — well over an hour. Running, hiking, and scent work suit them perfectly. Without enough outlet, they become restless and vocal. A securely fenced area is essential given their strong hunting drive.

Intelligent but independent, this hound responds best to patient, consistent training. Positive reinforcement works far better than corrections. Their nose-driven instincts make recall tricky once they catch a scent. Early socialization helps them adapt well to family life.
