Informazioni Dettagliate sulla Razza

Health

Russian Blues live 15 to 20 years and are one of the longest lived and healthiest cat breeds. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy occurs occasionally. Bladder stones and urinary tract issues appear in some individuals. Progressive retinal atrophy is documented in the breed. They are sensitive to stress and disruptions in routine which can manifest as physical symptoms. Annual vet visits and a stable home environment support long term health.

Grooming

Your Russian Blue has a dense, plush double coat that stands away from the body like velvet. Brush once or twice a week to remove loose hair. Their coat sheds less than many breeds so grooming is relatively simple. Bathe only occasionally. Trim nails every two weeks, clean ears monthly, and brush teeth regularly.

Exercise

Russian Blues are moderately active and enjoy daily play sessions. They like interactive wand toys, fetch games, and quiet games with their favorite person. They are reserved with strangers but playful and energetic with family. Two play sessions daily of ten to fifteen minutes keeps most Russian Blues content and healthy.

Training

Russian Blues are intelligent, observant, and bond deeply to one or two people. They learn routines, their name, and tricks with treat based training. They are cautious with strangers so early socialization matters greatly. They do not adapt easily to major routine changes. Build trust first and training follows naturally.

Nutrition

Feed a quality protein rich diet twice daily with measured portions. Russian Blues are food motivated and prone to overeating if given the opportunity. Avoid free feeding entirely. Choose foods with real meat first. Monitor weight monthly. Always provide fresh water and choose foods with minimal artificial additives.

History

The Russian Blue originated in the port city of Arkhangelsk in northern Russia, where the breed is sometimes called the Archangel Cat. English sailors are believed to have brought the first Russian Blues to Britain and Northern Europe in the 1860s. The breed was exhibited at the Crystal Palace cat show in London in 1875. World War II reduced the population significantly and breeders crossed surviving cats with Siamese and British Blues to rebuild the breed. The strict blue coat and green eye standard was restored over following decades.
