Informations Détaillées sur la Race

Health

Korean Jindo Dogs are a generally healthy, hardy breed, often living 12 to 15 years. Hip dysplasia occurs occasionally given their active, working build. Otherwise, this breed's relative isolation has kept it remarkably free of widespread hereditary health issues.

Grooming

That thick double coat needs brushing two to three times a week to manage shedding. Shedding increases heavily during seasonal coat blows, requiring daily brushing then. Bathe only when needed, as their coat naturally resists dirt. Nail trims and ear checks round out a simple routine.

Exercise

Bred for hunting small and large game across Korea's mountainous terrain, this breed needs close to an hour of activity daily. Walks, scent games, and active play suit their athletic, alert nature well. They have real stamina and a notably independent hunting drive. Mental stimulation through training keeps their sharp mind satisfied.

Training

Highly intelligent but fiercely independent, Korean Jindo Dogs need a confident, experienced handler. Early socialization is essential given their natural wariness of strangers and strong territorial instincts. Positive reinforcement combined with firm consistency works best. This breed is generally not suited to first-time dog owners.

Nutrition

A medium-breed formula with quality protein suits their active lifestyle well. Two measured meals daily work well for this breed. Watch portions during less active periods to avoid weight gain. Fresh water should always be available, especially after exercise.

History

Native to Jindo Island in South Korea, this breed has hunted game across the island's rugged terrain for centuries, developing in relative isolation from outside breeds. South Korea designated the Jindo a national treasure in 1962, restricting export of purebred dogs to protect the breed's genetic purity. The breed is famous in Korea for extraordinary loyalty, including documented stories of dogs traveling enormous distances to return to former owners. It remains a fiercely loyal, independent companion today.
