Informations Détaillées sur la Race

Health

English Cocker Spaniels typically live 12 to 14 years. Ear infections are extremely common given their long, feathered ears, so weekly cleaning matters. Eye conditions and hip dysplasia also occur with some frequency. Regular checkups catch these issues early.

Grooming

That silky, feathered coat needs brushing several times a week to prevent matting, especially on the ears and legs. Professional grooming every six to eight weeks keeps the coat manageable. Bathe every two to four weeks. Ears need extra attention at every grooming session.

Exercise

Bred as a versatile hunting companion, English Cockers need close to an hour of activity daily. Walks, fetch, and scent work suit their sporting heritage well. They genuinely love being included in active family life. Mental stimulation through games keeps their sharp mind satisfied.

Training

Intelligent and eager to please, English Cocker Spaniels are a genuine joy to train. Positive reinforcement with treats and praise works beautifully. Early socialization rounds out their naturally friendly, affectionate temperament. They excel in obedience and field activities with the right encouragement.

Nutrition

A quality medium-breed formula with good protein suits their active sporting lifestyle. Two measured meals daily work better than free feeding. Coat-supporting nutrients like omega-3s help keep that silky coat at its best. Fresh water should always be available.

History

The English Cocker Spaniel descends from centuries-old European hunting spaniels, prized for flushing woodcock from dense cover. The breed developed alongside its American cousin before the two were formally separated in the mid-1900s. English Cockers tend to be slightly taller with a flatter coat than the American variety. The breed remains a popular gundog and family companion in Britain and beyond.
