Watch their weight, as they can gain if under-exercised, though this is less common given their drive. Fresh water should always be available, especially after field activity.

Developed in England in the 1600s, the Pointer was bred specifically to locate and "point" toward game birds, freezing in place to signal the hunter without flushing the prey. The breed quickly became one of the most popular gundogs in Britain and later America. Their elegant, athletic build and intense focus made them favorites among serious bird hunters. Today the breed remains both a capable field dog and an energetic companion.
