Norwegian Buhunds typically live 12 to 15 years and are a generally healthy breed. Hip dysplasia and certain eye conditions occur occasionally. Otherwise, this is a hardy, long-living breed with few major health concerns.

That thick double coat needs brushing two to three times a week to manage shedding. Shedding increases heavily during seasonal coat blows, requiring daily brushing then. Bathe only when needed, as their coat naturally resists dirt. Nail trims and ear checks round out a simple routine.

Bred for herding sheep across Norwegian farms, Norwegian Buhunds need close to an hour of activity daily. Walks, herding games, and active play suit their athletic, alert nature well. A medium-breed formula with quality protein suits their active herding lifestyle. Two measured meals daily support steady energy throughout busy days. Watch portions during less active periods to avoid weight gain. Fresh water should always be available, especially after exercise.
