Informazioni Dettagliate sulla Razza

Health

Norfolk Terriers typically live 12 to 16 years, an excellent lifespan. Hip dysplasia and certain heart conditions occur occasionally given their small size. Patellar luxation is also noted in the breed. Otherwise, this is a generally hardy, long-living terrier.

Grooming

That wiry coat needs brushing once or twice a week to manage tangles. Hand-stripping a few times a year maintains proper coat texture. Bathe only when needed, as frequent washing softens the coat. Nail trims and dental care round out the routine.

Exercise

Spirited and bold, Norfolk Terriers need about 45 minutes of activity daily. Walks, fetch, and active play suit their energetic, feisty nature well. They have real stamina and a genuine love of digging and exploring. Mental stimulation through games keeps boredom away.

Training

Intelligent but a touch stubborn, Norfolk Terriers can be a bit of a training challenge. Positive reinforcement and consistency pay off well. Early socialization helps round out their naturally bold, friendly temperament. Short, engaging sessions work better than long, repetitive ones.

Nutrition

A small-breed formula with quality protein suits this energetic little dog well. Two measured meals daily work better than free feeding. Watch portions closely, as small dogs gain weight quickly on excess treats. Fresh water should always be available.

History

Developed in England, the Norfolk Terrier was bred to hunt rodents and foxes around farms in East Anglia, working closely alongside its near-identical cousin, the Norwich Terrier. The two were considered a single breed until split in 1964 based on ear shape — the Norfolk has folded ears while the Norwich has erect ones. The breed remains a spirited, hardy little working terrier today, prized for its fearless personality.
