Informazioni Dettagliate sulla Razza

Health

Japanese Spitz dogs typically live 12 to 14 years and are a generally healthy breed. Patellar luxation and certain eye conditions occur occasionally given their small-to-medium size. Otherwise, this is a hardy, long-living breed with few major concerns.

Grooming

That fluffy, pure-white double coat needs brushing two to three times a week to manage shedding. Shedding increases heavily during seasonal coat blows, requiring daily brushing then. Bathe every four to six weeks to keep the coat bright white. Nail trims and ear checks round out a simple routine.

Exercise

Japanese Spitz dogs have moderate energy and need about 30 to 45 minutes of activity daily. Walks and active play suit their alert, cheerful nature well. They genuinely enjoy learning tricks and interactive games. Mental stimulation matters just as much as physical movement for this clever breed.

Training

Intelligent and eager to please, Japanese Spitz dogs generally train well with patient, positive methods. They can be a bit vocal, so teaching a quiet command early helps. Early socialization rounds out their naturally friendly, alert temperament. This breed genuinely enjoys learning and performing tricks.

Nutrition

A small-to-medium breed formula with quality protein suits their active lifestyle well. Two measured meals daily work better than free feeding. Watch portions closely, as they can gain weight if under-exercised. Fresh water should always be available.

History

Developed in Japan in the early 1900s, the Japanese Spitz was bred down from larger white Spitz-type dogs imported from Europe, refined into a smaller companion breed. Their striking pure-white coat and cheerful temperament made them popular family pets across Japan. The breed gradually spread internationally through the mid-1900s. Today it remains a happy, low-shedding companion breed admired for its bright white coat.
