Your Slovensky Kopov needs at least 60 minutes of vigorous exercise daily. Running, scent work, and field activities match their hunting drive perfectly. They follow their nose intensely and recall breaks down fast on a trail, so keep them on leash in open areas. Secure fencing is essential.

Slovensky Kopovs are intelligent and willing but their hunting instinct runs deep. Use positive reinforcement and high value food rewards. Start early with leash manners and basic commands. The Slovensky Kopov developed in Slovakia over centuries as a specialist scent hound for hunting wild boar in the dense forests of the Carpathian region. Slovak hunters needed a dog tough enough to track boar through rugged mountain terrain and courageous enough to bay the animal until the hunter arrived. The breed was formally standardized in 1963. The FCI recognized the Slovensky Kopov in 1964. Outside Slovakia and Central Europe, the breed remains very rare.
