Toy Poodles typically live 14 to 16 years, an excellent lifespan. Patellar luxation and dental crowding are common given their tiny size. Progressive retinal atrophy and a soft spot in the skull called an open fontanelle also occur. Hypoglycemia can affect puppies, so frequent small meals matter early on.

That dense, curly coat needs brushing several times a week to prevent matting, since it doesn't naturally shed the way most coats do. Professional grooming every four to six weeks is essential to keep the coat manageable. Bathe every three to four weeks. Their famously low-shedding coat makes them popular for allergy-sensitive households.

Despite their tiny size, Toy Poodles are genuinely energetic and need about 30 minutes of activity daily. Short walks and indoor play sessions suit them well. They have real stamina and a notable love of learning and games. Mental stimulation matters just as much as physical exercise for this clever little dog.

Exceptionally intelligent, Toy Poodles are among the most trainable toy breeds in the world. Positive reinforcement produces remarkable results, often very quickly. Early socialization rounds out their naturally friendly, alert temperament. This breed genuinely excels in obedience and trick training despite its small size.

A small-breed formula with quality protein suits this little dog's needs well. Frequent small meals work better than large feedings, especially for puppies prone to low blood sugar. Watch portions closely, as small dogs gain weight quickly on excess treats. Fresh water should always be available.
