Detaillierte Rasseninformationen

Health

Balinese and Javanese cats live 15 to 20 years when cared for well. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the main hereditary heart concern, so ask breeders about cardiac screening in their lines. Progressive retinal atrophy occurs in the breed. Convergent strabismus, a crossed eye condition, and nystagmus also appear but rarely cause functional problems. Annual vet visits with cardiac checkups protect their long term health.

Grooming

Your Balinese or Javanese cat has a single layer silky coat that sheds less than most longhaired breeds. Brush two to three times a week to prevent tangles and reduce loose hair. Bathe every four to six weeks if needed. Clean ears monthly, trim nails every two weeks, and brush teeth regularly. Their coat stays neater than it looks with minimal consistent effort.

Exercise

This breed has serious energy. Provide daily interactive play sessions with wand toys and puzzle feeders. They love climbing so a tall cat tree is essential. Without enough stimulation they get loud and mischievous. Budget at least two play sessions daily of ten to fifteen minutes each.

Training

The Balinese and Javanese are among the most trainable cat breeds. They learn their name fast, respond to calls, and pick up tricks quickly with treat rewards. They also figure out how to open doors and cupboards on their own. Channel their intelligence into structured play and training to prevent destructive boredom.

Nutrition

Feed a high quality protein rich wet food as the primary diet with dry food as a supplement. This breed stays lean naturally when active but gains weight if underfed in play and overfed in food. Two measured meals daily work better than free feeding. Always provide fresh water.

History

The Balinese developed as a natural longhaired mutation of the Siamese in the United States during the 1940s and 1950s. Breeder Helen Smith named the breed after the graceful dancers of Bali. The Javanese is a color variation of the Balinese recognized in different point colors beyond the traditional four. Both breeds share the same vocal, affectionate, and highly intelligent personality as the Siamese but with a flowing single layer coat. The Cat Fanciers Association recognized the Balinese in the 1960s.
