Carolina Dog

Early socialization is essential given their natural wariness of strangers. They retain a strong instinct to roam, so secure containment matters greatly.

A quality protein-rich diet suits this naturally lean, active breed well. Two measured meals daily work better than free feeding. They tend to stay naturally fit given their high activity needs. Fresh water should always be available, especially after exercise.

Discovered living wild in the swamps and forests of the American Southeast, the Carolina Dog is believed to descend from ancient dogs that arrived with early humans crossing into North America. Researchers in the 1970s recognized their unique, primitive traits and began studying the breed. Often called the "American Dingo," they remain one of the few naturally evolved breeds in North America today.
